Australia Day 1

Top Ten in Alphabet Soup group Challenge Feb 09

Nikon D60, 18-55mm. Focal length 24mm. F/11, 8secs

Didn’t realize till 5 mths after this was taken that a technique I’d read about and tried on this occassion actually worked. I have just found the photo stats, which suggests to me it did work. Couldn’t find anything around that time as I’d had the computer reformatted

Many thanks to Nigel Donald for sharing how to use a bit of cardboard and a long exposure

Wow what a GREAT capture. What is “Australia Day”?

  • Claire Farley replied

Thank you Robin. A good reference can be found here Thousands line the Swan River and King’s Park for good vantage points for our fireworks. Many make a complete day of it. Some setting up camp early in the morning and making the most of the day. My son was interviewed several times during the day by news crews and radio stations for his efforts on his camp set up. He had all the comforts of home including a pool set up on the back of his Ute and a large freezer full of ice (make from home) to keep the pool water cool. My other son was not so lucky he got arrested and had to leave! Mum had to go in a drive the Ute safely home…young fellows and too much drink!

Beautiful Clare and very quick… I was up there all day but went home around 5pm, had enough LOL

  • Claire Farley replied

It can be a long tiring day…depending on what you are doing. I didn’t get to Langley Park till later as I was lucky enough to be watching the partial eclipse of the sun through a telescope around 5pm…and taking photos of it. The drive home from the fireworks was a good one…first time my son has ever let me drive his beloved 4WD Ute!!!
Thank you muchly for your comment. Bound to be a few more of the sky show soon. Was rather surprised I hadn’t seen some posted by the time I got home, talked with my boys, then got on the computer after they hit the hay.

  • Claire Farley replied

Thank you. I haven’t Lent to do anything sophisticated as what you describe. This was one of my first shots while trying to get the correct exposure for the scene. Pleased you thought of my work as ‘fantastic’
