Spider Orchid

Spider Orchid

Taken 3rd Sept 08. Sucker for Warwick Open space, even if I bring home a few more tics! This was worth it!
I played with this in raw and HRD, but reverted back to the orginal Jpeg image taken the same time as the raw image. Guess I’m past working with it after a full on day at work.

Spider Orchid belongs to the following groups:

Australian Bush ☼ (aspects of realistic views - ie N0 Abstracts or Macros please!), Australian Native Plants-2 per day and Former DPF Members Available for sale as

Greeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints, Framed Prints and Posters

Lovely sharp detail Claire. The Open Space must have an amazing amount of wildflowers. I’m heading North on saturday for 3 days to see the wildflowers. John

    G’day Claire,

A very lovely specimen of this rather unusual West Aussie terrestrial orchid that you have composed and photographed very well indeed!
The.jpg compression does not seem to have done any damage to the image and I beggar to ask why, WHY, would you want to “HDR” a beautiful natural wildflower anyway??? It’s almost sacrilege! HDR, if it is to be used at all should only be used on very selective photographs which have some exposure problems. I see no such requirement here. HDR is way over rated and over used in my ‘umble opinion.
Wonderful light and exposure, very good use of depth of field and a great focus.
As a bit of housekeeping I suggest you use the clone stamp and digitally sculpt that orchid petal on our left that is trying to escape, so it looks as though it is retained within the frame.
    Contrast and colours are excellent!!!
    Very good work that girl!

Hi there Dennis…I just love your very valuable input and comments! Why HDR? Cos I’m still learning and like to see how things pan out when different techniques are tired. I would sooner or later work out which images to apply HDR to and how to get the best from my Raw images. It is a great learning experience. I guess on this one I took the lazy way out cos I was tired and what I was trying wasn’t working.
Thanks for the tip on using the clone stamp…..I didn’t notice this flaw at the time…..Thank you big time for your favouring on this one!
