A glimpse

Just a day in my life over seas.

A glimpse belongs to the following groups:

All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Everyday Life, Light In The Darkness, The Word Tree, War and Woman Appreciation

Mortars fall
Just about 18
Sirens wail
Sitting in the bunkard
Waiting for an all clear
Over the radio
All you hear is
We’ve got casulties
Head out
to building 128
Where a person lies
Shrapnel to the whole right side
and to top it off
an open head wound
Stop the bleeding
Package him up
and head out
Hospital as destination
All the while mortars fall
Head inside
Treat the wounded and wait for the next call
Ten more patients
and the mortars stop
My job is done
I head back to my room
And think of the chaos
That I just took part of
and relax
waiting for the call
to head back out
and treat the unknown

Takes a certain kind of person to do such job and function under pressures as such. So good there are those like you can put real action into words to convey to the world what really goes on. You convey your thoughts well, and have admirable quality. In thought and prayer for protection in your duties and safe, peaceful, speedy return home.

Powerful, thought provoking words. We take so much for granted over here. My son was in the marines for 7 years, he’s been out for 3 years now. Thank you for your service in the military, and for sharing with us here. Take care.

First of all, thank you for sharing your poetry, I wish there were more people who did what you do, as far as writing about their experiences. It was very moving, but detatched at the same time, it took me there, as far as feeling what you must feel. Keep writing and sharing. Love it!

I love the rhythm and the really tight writing style – gives a sense of “being there” and focus, despite being about chaotic events. I enjoyed it very much.

Perhaps an obvious comparison, but it reminds me in some ways of the film MASH …

Thank you for all you are doing for us back here at home. Be safe and keep writing, your poem shows the dark reality that is war and in a small way shows us a bit of the terror you have to exist in. You have the hearts of every American who are in your debt
