Welcome! I hope you’ll enjoy browsing to your heart’s content. With the wide range of images you’ll find here, there’s something for just about everyone. It’s all about the conscious act of seeing, and I hope taking a journey through my artwork will awaken your senses and bring you around to a different point of view the next time you see an everyday object or a lowly flower.

I’ve been capturing images that tickle my brain ever since my parents handed me my first camera in 4th grade- a well-loved old Brownie Starflex. My “thing” is lighting—the more natural, the better. Back-lighting and worm’s-eye-views have become near-obsessions. As an art major at Goshen College years ago, the best advice I got there from a favorite professor was to “Play with it!”... sage advice which I still follow today. This may mean lying down in a ditch to see some brown-eyed Susans from below, and there’s the fun.

I have a poor memory for certain things (and yet a great memory for random, odd things), but one great joy through photography is its instant way etching moments in my memory. That special ray of light, or fabulous color which would otherwise get forgotten becomes to me like an old friend when I process or view the image later. I love to create closeups from odd angles. Captures of momentary rays of light such as those that happen just before a storm, or between the “edge of night & the break of day” (Kate Wolf) are present in much of my work as well.

It’s rare to catch me without a camera, and I imagine I’ll always be discovering new techniques as well as noticing the next great slant of light in that wonderful moment in that incredible corner of the world—even if it’s my hometown. I never tire of getting other folks to look up & see what the lens is pointing at in some tree, or look down and notice the tiny snowdrop flowers they’d missed. The frequent chuckle I hear is worth every minute of dragging cameras around just for fun.

If there’s something you’d like to see me tackle, please drop me a line & put the bug in my ear. I’m always up for a new challenge. If it’s nearby in Bucks, Lehigh, or Montgomery counties of Pennsylvania, I’ll be there. For those old friends, acquaintances, or relatives wondering about my identity— my maiden name was Histand. I’ve been blessed to have the chance to travel and live in various & wonderful corners of the earth such as China, Tibet, Thailand, Nepal, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Haiti, Italy, Canada, North Carolina, & Texas. My images come from all of the above, and I will keep adding more as I’m able. Thank you again for stopping to see my work! —Anna Lisa
