The tale continues…
….By afternoon, the entire village was assembled in the square, abuzz with excitement and as the train approached, they could see that it was composed entirely of ladies. Beautiful ladies, some masked, some not, dressed in opulent gowns and jewels, each more elegant than the last and perched on an individual car, playing an instrument and each accompanied by an exotic bird. They were truly magnificent. And the music was so exquisite and so expertly played, it was hard to keep the air in one’s chest when hearing it. The villagers broke into wild applause, as did the king’s guards, dropping their weapons, unable to help themselves. The ladies curtsied deeply and beckoned the villagers to follow them to the castle – it made quite the parade! The train rumbled over the open drawbridge and right into an enormous palace ballroom that was swathed in blue silk bunting shot through with diamonds so that it was like being held inside the night sky, and towers of candles flickered everywhere. Stepping down from the very last car, a lady with wings at her shoulders and a swan-shaped hat on her head blew her horn loudly and decreed, “Let the Magic Masquerade begin!”
