The first of the numbered Major Arcana cards. Original watercolor and inkline depiction of “The Magician” tarot card designed for an all-female Art Nouveau deck. This version with lettering.

Symbolizing personal will in its union with the Divine, the Magician possesses the knowledge and power to bring things into manifestation through conscious self awareness. She stands in a lush spring garden blooming with roses and lilies, which show the cultivation of desires. A symbol of eternal life braided into her long hair, the Magician raises her wand towards the cosmos while her left hand points to the earth. She draws power from above, directing it into manifestation. Another symbol of eternity, a snake devouring its own tail, circles her waist. Incense rises from a censer decorated with owls, the Magician’s familiar. On her altar (carved with all symbols of the zodiac) rest the all the symbols of the four suits of the Minor Arcana and the Magician’s tools: the wand, the cup, the pentacle and the sword which signify the natural elements of life: fire, water, earth and air.

A conduit between the Divine and the earthly, the Magician indicates will, mastery, skill, power, diplomacy and occult wisdom and the skill to take power from above and direct it through desire into manifestation.

This is very cool work. I really the card and the woman on it is a real beauty, both as a work of art and as an individual.
