Neat freaks and germophobes can be such a trial for those who live with them, but Sonora Scarafaggio stood at the compulsively disinfected apex of the obsessive scale. Sonora’s dismissal rate for maids averaged one a week by the time Mrs. Porcini came to her, but it only took three days of dogged haranguing and nitpicking before the crinkled old housekeeper had had enough. Just a few grains of an ancient recipe sprinkled into Sonora’s evening tea was all it took to effect a decidedly Kafka-esque morning: Sonora awoke with a giant roach growing out of the top of her head. Oddly, she became quite fond of the appendage she named Edgar, but Mrs. Porcini’s plan may have backfired: Sonora also became a complete and unrepentant slob, and had no further desire for a housekeeper.
This 2 1/2” x 3 1/2” x 1/2” original collage depicting Sonora Scarafaggio, her cleverly designed headwear, and Edgar has been constructed of hand cut vintage images upon a hand painted stretched canvas. Accented with Thai lace paper, Dresden trim, black crystals, a brass bug and reinforced antennae that extend past the top of the piece, it has also been finished on the back with art paper, signed and fitted with hanging hardware. Whether your home is neat as a pin or a little bit messy, Sonora and Edgar will bring a bit of character to it.
