In America, bead-board is often used in Cottage Style homes, a revival from days long ago. Painted white it is so refreshing and crisp, I can understand why it is totally worth the time and effort to install it. I loved seeing it here as an accent wall and am considering doing this to my own dining room.
This particular setting would be giving a nod to French Country Cottage Style with the white accented with red and black decor. A delightful and uplifting room.
Bead-board can cover a full wall, 3/4 of the wall as they have done here or is often used as wainscoting, covering only the bottom half of the wall. It is often used on porch ceilings, and soffits under the eaves, giving those areas a ship-like appearance. Interior walls and ceilings, in kitchens and baths, accents on doors, to accent cupboards and book shelves very effectively. It will bring to mind days gone by, a place at the beach or simply add understated charm to your rooms as nothing else can. It can be left natural, stained or painted white. It is considered a valuable architectural feature worth considering as you design your home or office.
