Moonlight Amber

Most people watch
The fall of night and
See shades of black and blue.

In sepia tones
And sienna shades,
My moon rides the sky.

On clearest nights,
Cloudless and deep,
The sky is amber plate.

The moon, within,
Like ancient insects,
Trapped for all time.

The title inspired the poem. I actually (snicker, snicker) misread part of a line in someone else’s work as “amber moonlight” and decided to use those words.

I love this poem, and I love how the title was born purely by accident! Isn’t it funny how things work out so nicely sometimes? :) Nice work!

  • Indeed it is. I figured strange inspiration breeds unusual writing… After all, most of my work is in rhyming four-line stanzas.
