I have lived in Adelaide, South Australia for most of my life. I started taking photos as soon as I got my first Kodak Instamatic and quickly became the chief “snapper” in the family. Biggest hurdle then was getting Mum to pay the development costs.
I trained as a nurse in Port Pirie and on many a car trip up and down Highway 1, I couldn’t resist stopping to take pictures of lovely sunsets and interesting clouds – by now I had graduated to a Minolta that took a 126 cartridge and thought I was in heaven. During that era I took many many snaps of our partying days.
When I was around 20 I went overseas with Mum & Dad (yeah I know it sounds a bit pathetic but Dad did pay my fare) I splashed out and bought a Minolta Riva AF Zoom 70EX which had a minute telephoto – again thought I was in heaven!
Later on by tragic circumstances my husband inherited a Minolta SLR camera and it sat around for a while until one day I decided to give it a go ….... many failed photos later we took it to the camera shop and it did actually have a problem – it wasn’t just the user…are you asleep yet?
Anyway, we got a bit for the lenses because there was nothing wrong with them.
Roll forward a few years and there was a Pentax SLR on special in good old Harris Scarfe with a telephoto lens and camera bag included so off I trotted to get one …....I took many pictures of two growing children with that camera – mostly on an auto setting.I still have that camera but I decided fairly quickly that digital was definitely a goer – my first one was a cheapie 1mg pixel something that was next to useless but then I got a Fuji S5500 and I still have that now – great for social events and places where I wont risk my Pentax K10 digital SLR and now I have a spare Fuji E510 (thanks BG) just to keep in my handbag …....
