Confirmed Petrol Head first and foremost, who happens to enjoy photography as a hobby.
I was bitten by the motor sport bug at a young age and prefer long distance sports car racing over single seaters. I also love the passion and enthusiasm of the owners and drivers of historic race cars and find this form of motorsport, as well as rallying, the most spectacular because of the lower grip levels and loose style of driving employed.

My God .. haven’t seen one of those in Years!!

  • I’ve only seen one on display before and knew of a couple being rallied. 1st time I’d seen one racing was Silverstone at MG Live.

    Sweet machine….
There’s one that races in Targa Tasmania most years and has won its class more than once…

  • Are there more of these in Aus than in Europe? I might have to start a spotters log! Thanks for the visit.

There’s almost none in Aus as they were never officially imported.
The 120 series (aka Amazon) was the first officially imported Volvo but there were isolated examples of earlier models including a photograph I have seen taken in the 1930s of an original Jakob model in South Australia.
Several PVs have been imported over the years also.

I’m a fan of older Volvos, owning a 242 GT as well as a 164E with a manual transmission, a very rare beast here.
There are an assortment of 240s, 360s, and 740s kicking about my place as well as a couple of auto 164s…11 or 12 Volvos of all types at my place right now!
I’m angling for a two door Amazon that a friend is thinking of selling too…the person I bought my 242 GT from as it happens. I would love to get it,and it would certainly be my summer transport if I do!
The GT is going to get a 740 Turbo heart transplant soon…

A 164!!?? Now that is rare.
Thanks for all the info you have taken the trouble to pass on.
