In recent years the Walter Hayes Trophy has established itself as one of the leading Formula Ford 1600 competitions in the world. The Silverstone event regularly attracts in excess of 150 talented drivers to do battle on the National Circuit. The knock-out format races are open to talented newcomers as well as experienced old hands and produce some very close racing.

The Walter Hayes Trophy races and the variety of support races provide a thoroughly enjoyable end to the racing season.

Confirmed Petrol Head first and foremost, who happens to enjoy photography as a hobby.
I was bitten by the motor sport bug at a young age and prefer long distance sports car racing over single seaters. I also love the passion and enthusiasm of the owners and drivers of historic race cars and find this form of motorsport, as well as rallying, the most spectacular because of the lower grip levels and loose style of driving employed.

    Well caught, Willie

  • Thanks Paul. Interesting variety of sports cars /saloons in this race. According to the programme this Clio should be an Austin Mini!

it must be a lot of fun going to the races… do you get access or shoot from the public area?

  • I have to shoot from the public area, there are hoops you have to jump through to get access to the side of the track. With the constant updating of the circuit mire and more of that pesky debris fencing is going up making it difficult to find a good spot.

well your photos certianly don’t look like they aren’t taken from track access

  • Thanks very much Jill. I’d be lost without all 500mm of my zoom!
