After purchasing some new software for HDR, I went back and had a look through some old photos. I need your opinion on whether this should replace the original
The original:
Thanks!
Well I’m still undecided, so for the time being both will be up! I’ll mull over it a while longer though.
Thanks again for all your comments!

Stunning image, love the water blur!

very hard desiion…they are both beautiful…i like blue tint as much as yelloworange…

The rock on the right is brightened and color of the overall image is better here. The water has a beautiful glisten to it. The sky is deeper and more defined. The rock to the bottom has more refined detail also.Your new program was a good buy I’d say.
Belinda Fraser
I prefer the HDR version… More depth, contrast and interest. That would be in my opinion.
Will Barton
Thanks for taking the time with your advice guys! I really appreciate it!

this is awesome great light , great colors, makes the texture of the rocks standout more
Bill Fonseca
Will, this is magic mate. The HDR version is way better in detail, colour and sharpness.
Tony Middleton
hi Will,
I looked at both versions by copying the original’s url and opening it another window… There is no doubt that this new one has more colour and saturation…but for some reason I think the original looks more realistic to me anyway.
But the main thing is which one you like better I think :)
Will Barton
Thanks for your comments and thanks Tony for taking the time to put down your thoughts. They’re all valuable!

I agree with Tony. The original looks like a great photo out of the camera. The new one looks overworked & phony. What I don’t like about HDR is alot of times the highlights & shadows look clipped & the image comes out really flat looking. It loses alot depth & dimension. If the photos look good out of the camera you should only need to adjust the levels slightly & sharpen it a bit. Apart from that why mess with it? Then again these HDR images seem to be popular. Your call

Stunning image Will – just magic! Congratulations on a magnificent capture!

This just works Will. Love how the clouds, rocks and water all have a similar line. Well done.

You know, I think they’re both great and it just comes down to personal taste. I don’t think one is better than the other because they both have different qualities. The HDR one certainly looks impressive at first glance, however the other one’s natural tones may please the eye for a longer look (ie on a wall). Perhaps the HDR one would be better for cards and smaller prints.
NickMonk
Wow this is a cracker. Anyone looking at either shot on its own is going to say wow!
Michael Gatch
wow, this is really great. The colors are amazing. really nice job.
Azzurra
i love this! awesome. i like this one more than the original X
Larry149
Yes Will, no contest! I think the HDR has breathed extra life into the original – which was a winner anyway. Great capture.
Jason Connolly
The New HDR one has more contrast and richer colour IMO so my vote will be with the new one, Although the original is still good.
Basia McAuley
What a beautiful and surreal image, love it.

Marinella Owens
very beautiful bravo!!!!!!!!!!
Will Barton replied
Thankyou very much Marinella!

Both are awesome in their own way. The first looks more true to life but the HDR gives the scene added pop. The sky detail seems to come out better as well. I think they both compliment each other well, but if I had to choose I’d go the HDR version.
Marco Trezza
Real surrealist place!
Paul Vanzella
are you serious Will – this is so incredible! LOVE IT!
Will Barton replied
Hey thanks for the comment Paul!

Thanks for stopping by and looking up “Sunburst” ........ your image stood out immediately on the home page and then the tough question ? ...I am constantly in the same conundrum…...but will stick with HDR where appropriate…the more you use it the more an individual style develops for each type of image (aaghh I remember being wowed by those early attempts; just whacking sliders up to 10 and down to zero :).....somehow I feel the combination of this along with software improvements could make it a bad move not to keep your hand in ? .....its a tough call though.
Will Barton replied
Thanks for your indepth comment Tony!

WOW..both fantastic captures. I think I like the colour in the HDR version better….but just a bit.

Great original image. The HDR looks terrific but I’m seeing so much of it around now I find the more realistic image refreshing in a way. I wonder if HDR will become a cliche pretty soon.
Will Barton replied
I think the Garish, in your face HDR will become a cliche (except for the rare occasions when the scene calls for it) but well done HDRs, subtle HDRs won’t.
Dan Biggins
Fantastic shot Will – I prefer the original version for what it’s worth, although both are stunning. A fave.
Will Barton replied
Thanks for the comment Dan. And an opinion is always welcome, no matter how long ago the question was asked.

I get some what “surreal/out of this world” feeling from the new one and I am more comfortable with the original. Of course, “comfortable” can turns to be “ordinary/boring” to some, and new one will definitely grab my attention. I think it depends on how you are going to use it. Both beautiful.
