Randwick Racecourse – Sydney – 1974
Rod Stewart in concert Sydney Australia, from my “Dead ‘N’ Alive” exhibition set.
One of a series of photographs I took in my early days of photography.
All shot on film using a Nikormat FTN. A wonderful hard working film camera.
In those days there was little or no security and no “Crash Barriers”, so I would make my way to the front of the stage and shoot.
In this case I managed to talk my way into actually getting on stage for the whole performance. I started talking to the stage manager while the roadies were setting up and asked if I could get up to shoot. He said I’d have to find “Paul” and ask him.
So when I found Paul a few minutes later it turned out to be Paul Dainty, the famous promoter. Paul was very friendly and said “If you can get up on stage you can take photos.” So I ran back to the stage manager and said “Paul said it was OK!” and I was given a hand and pulled up on the stage. Ahhh the good old days…
Scanned from the original negatives or transparencies.
