The Empty Night

In the Empty Night…

When the heart gets damaged
It closes up to the outside world.
Fires go out and smoke spirals off.
This is when the demons come out,
Climbing their ladder from the dark

Keeping eyelids open, peering out
Into complete blackness is a struggle.
Shapes move and imagination rules,
Storm waves crashing all around
Ensure not one step is taken ahead

Thankful for one brief moment
Friendships formed en route,
Decipher messages saved
Out of sequence up above
When heart and head collide

Falling tears, briefly lighten the dark
Like stars twinkling all around.
Hope and desire now preservation,
Nothing to the sound of empty night
Waiting for a glimpse of a new dawn
