He hopped off the horse like a Hollywood cowboy, all lanky denim, sinew and dust. He shot me a look and I noticed his eyes right away, the coolest blue, fringed by long dark lashes and framed by a sprinkling of freckles. He ran his fingers through his black hair, sweeping it backwards. His smile was lopsided, it kind of loped like his walk, and exposed strong white teeth, made all the whiter by his sun bronzed skin. He made his way down the platform, and I took in the snakeskin boots. HOT HOT HOT. I’m a snakeskin kind of girl.
He said ‘what brings you to my neck of the woods Tinkerbell?’ And I laughed out loud, cheeky too, I liked it. I said ‘I feel like Pink in an Elvis movie’ and his eyes flashed in response. I secretly looked for the conga band hidden in the bushes and waited for him to serenade me with song.
I said ‘hey Cowboy which one’s my horse?’ and he pointed toward the big black stallion, I was impressed. I was wearing my green tutu with purple stripy tights, a black waist coat and red ankle boots and this horse offset my outfit perfectly. He flashed me a grin as he passed me the white Stetson. This guy had his finger on the pulse.
He said ‘do you think you can manage him?’ and threw me a challenging look. I stared right at him and answered ‘eat shit and die Cowboy’. He grabbed a black Stetson and swung aboard the big white stallion next to mine. My heart was thumping as I straddled my horse.
With autumn the world around us was transformed into a blaze of brilliant colour. The carousel was huge, with life size horses and rolling western scenes, it was spectacular. The music started and it was Guns and Roses Sweet Child of Mine, just perfect and we rode off into the sunset side by side.
