Storms rolled over Middlemount all afternoon so I was anticipating a great night show. The storm came over quite quickly but was most spectacular. I left Middlemount about 6.30pm heading towards Emerald. I only got 5km down the main road when I veered off down a dirt road (Bowen Park Road), which positioned me right in front of the incoming storm. I watched for about 10 minutes to gage where the main strikes were situated so I could attempt to frame a bolt centre frame. I only managed 20 minutes of shots before being blown over and retreating to my car with my tail between my legs, the name of my final shot explains my retreat.
The shots within this group include BLUE ICE, INTO THE BLUE, DRAGONS EYE, LIGHTNING STAR AND CRAPPED MY PANTS. Some additional imaged will be added at a later date as they still require cropping. Any alterations to the shots are usually cropping but generally I try to keep them unaltered as it is part of the challenge to get that perfect shot.
I was tempted to use my old film camera but the lightning was so frequent that I went for the D300 with 30” exposures varying apertures as it was twilight (If people are interested in apertures I can post these up at a later date).
