Marine iguanas in the Galapagos Islands expel excess salt from their diet of marine algae through their nostrils with a forceful “sneeze”. While it is relatively easy to observe iguanas “sneezing” it became quite a challenge to capture that action with a camera as they give no warning when they are about to do this unique behaviour. After finally isolating my perfect iguana against a dark background I captured this image with the sneeze backlit by the sun and streaking due to the slow shutter speed I chose. Achoo!
