I once again am rewarded for a pre-dawn landing at Gold Harbor on South Georgia as these king penguins posed perfectly in front of the rising sun. It seems that only about 1 in 5 attempts to land in the dark on South Georgia pan out to be a perfect sunrise type of morning, but when it happens it is absolutely glorious! I will be back for more attempts in October and November of 2011 as well as again in March of 2012. I am so often reminded that it is the quest for the perfect image, not the image itself, that drives me to return again and again to these magical places on the planet. In my wanderings I realize that I will never take the perfect image!
