Without a care in the world, surrounded by plenty of food (krill, fish, and penguins) this adult male leopard seal seems to be perfectly content to stretch his muscles and even yawn for the camera. Leopard seals are among the very top predators in Antarctica (second only to killer whales) and this one is just relaxing before going out to hunt again. Like the land animal it is named after, between meals finds this predator taking naps and digesting those big meals!

Huh!!! I’ve seen leopard seals twice now (once in Chile, once in Antarctica) and have wanted them to show off their dentistry like this fellow, but no luck! All mine do is SMILE at me!!! Great pose and timing! ;o)
