On a perfectly flat sea day off the west coast of Maui this green sea turtle paused just long enough to look me directly in the eye before taking a breath at the surface and diving down 15 meters to the reef below. Science puts the time of turtles on this planet at over 100 million years, we humans can only claim a fraction of that time here on Earth. What amazing things turtle ancestors must have been witness to, what a struggle to live on.
