This was shot this month near Stuttgart, Ark USA, with a SanyoVPC-E2100. I do not know what its called, maybe someone does. It is a huge fungus growing on a dead Oak tree. And I felt sad that the little ant got stuck to it and died.

If you want to see something neat looking take one of these and lay it on a dark piece of paper bottom side down over night, called a spore print!
( To help us tidy up the group it would be appreciated if you could remove as many of your older works as possible – Thanks Ray )
If you have already done this THANK YOU
Unfortunately it won’t be possible to give an ID by this beautiful photo……..there are sooo many kinds of Polypore fungi out there to figure thru and many have this type of a texture for the pores. Do you by chance have a full view or a top view? We might be able to help more if so.The ant very likely got stuck when the fungi started to dry out…sometimes fungi produce ‘resins’ that attract insects to help carry the spores (as barnsis was mentioning). Prints are awesome…especially the patterns they produce!
Very nice capture
