Artist's Description

I had the privilege of being one of the last generations to travel over America’s Route 66, IN 1966! We got detoured SO many times, as they were building I 40. It was just me and my newly divorced mom, moving to California. A bold move for a woman, back then. But then she WAS courageous. We got sidetracked late at night, and came to a cattle gate at midnight. Odd, for a freeway!! So we slept in the car until daylight, when we could see. It was a shock to wake up on a misty morning in a cow pasture with Longhorns gathered around us, obviously thinking we were the farmer come to feed them. Mom was brave, but not with 100 steers, and woke me with a blood curdling scream. It WAS freaky, seeing all those faces and horns pressed against the car windows. I had to get out and chase them away so we could turn around, I was 11 years old!! We had somehow got 50 miles off the road in Oklahoma. I laugh now when I think of Oklahoma!!…Anyway, this is a part of my Route 66 collection…….Note the TOY in the picture. It was what we pre-computer kids played with on trips. It was a puzzle, you pushed the tiles around until you got the map right. Easier said than done!! Took me 4 states!….Taken with a SanyoVPC-E2100.
