Dad bought this 1959 Mack “H” Model with sleeper new. This photo captured with a Kodak Instamatic around 1963…scanned and polished in Elements 7. (hey, it’s an old print!)

As a kid, some of my fondest memories are riding all over the country and Canada in this rig…

The truck cost $17,000 brand new back then and came with a big chrome ashtray with the Bulldog hoodie prominantly featured in the center. Dad used to say “That ashtray cost 17 thousand, but you get a free Mack truck with it!” I still have the ashtray…

Thanks for Looking!

Great memories and it’s easy to see where your love of trucks originates :)
It doesn’t look that dissimilar to an English artic (semi) of the same period.

  • Thanks very much David! I do have a passion for trucks and truckers…you just have to respect them!

Cool truck, but that ash tray is simply awesome!

  • Hi Stuart! Thank you! I dug the ashtray out after I edited the truck shot…did you ever try to light chrome?

Great looking truck and fond memories for you Bill, lucky you grabbed that ash tray what an awesome looking piece and collectable as well.

  • Hi Steven, Thanks very much! This truck brings back some of my best memories…I actually learned how a clutch works one winter when dad had to push this with another truck to get it started! I was piloting this rig…good thing we had a long driveway! I think I was 13 or 14 then.

Well done! Don’t lose the ashtray…. may be as good as a 401K! – John

  • LOL! Thanks John! The ashtray has a prominent placement in my garage…right next to the tool box!
