LLLLLUUUUVVV THEM WILLYS. BEAUTIFUL CAPTURE OF A MARVELOUS VEHICLE. THESE CARS MADE SUCH GREAT HOT RODS AND RACERS. I STARTED TO DO MY 1957 BELAIR 4 DOOR STATION WAGON IN GASSER STYLE. I HAD THE ASS END JACKED UP TO CLEAR MY WHEELS AND THE FRONT END WAS STOCK, SO IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS ROLLING DOWN HILL EVEN WHEN IT WAS STANDING STILL. THE ENGINE WAS A 1963 GMC 409 CU.IN. AND AFTER REBUILDING IT WAS DINO’D AT 525 HP WITH 725 FT POUNDS OF TORQUE. THE CAR GOT FANTASTIC 1ST AND 2ND GEAR WHEEL STANDS, JUST LIKE IT WAS. BUT, I WANTED A STRAIGHT AXLE UP FRONT, ONLY I COULDN’T FIND A WELDER THAT WOULD INSTALL THE FRONT AXLE FOR STREET USE. I DID MANAGE A RESPECTABLE QUARTER MILE TIME OF 9.557 SECONDS AT 142.57 MPH. THE TIME AND SPEED WAS EASY FOR ME TO REMEMBER BECAUSE OF THE .557 AND THE .57, IT TOTALLY BLEW ME AWAY WHEN I SAW THE TIME SLIP. OVER THE YEARS, I LOST THE TIME SLIP. I WAS HOPING TO KEEP IT AND FIND THE ONE PICTURE OF MY CHEVY AND FRAME THEM TOGETHER. I ENDED UP TRADING IT FOR A 1965 IMPALA SUPER SPORT. I SURE DO MISS THAT 57 WAGON THOUGH. BOB :)

  • Bill Dutting replied

Thank you Bob! I have a few more of these to post…

The red flames and black mix well together. Great shot.

  • Bill Dutting replied

Thank you kindly! It was one of the cleanest willys I’ve laid eyes on!
