When you visit a place once in your life the last thing you want to see is scaffolding especially on the main building of the city you are visiting !
This is the Dom Cathedral, Riga, Latvia as of 1st July 2012. The Cathedral was severerly damaged during WW2 and in 2012 it looks like there is major reconstruction work going on. I however like this photograph. What might have been !
The Cathedral was originally constructed in 1211 although there have been many additions through the centuries. It is the largest medieval church in the Baltic States.

Too true, York Minster had scaffolding up one end when I was there last and I was mighty disappointed. This is a great image just the same.

  • Thanks Christine. I’m pretty sure there was scaffolding at York Minster when I was there too ! When I went to Salisbury there was scaffolding on the very top of the spire ! At least I can go back to York and Salisbury!
