Construction of the Mosque started in 785. It was built in stages. The outer naves and courtyards were laid out in 987. These walls were built by Moor craftsmen.
King Ferdinand 111 captured Cordoba from the Moors in 1236 and the mosque was reconsecrated as a cathedral. The outer walls would have been constructed before 1236.
