Gautama is another name given in reference to Buddha as it is his clan name. This painting is inspired by my love for Buddhism and Buddha’s teachings. The journey has changed me eternally in spirit, opened my heart to my truths, my opinions, my judgements, my cultural influences & educated thoughts throughout my life… Through this process I discovered, awareness starts with self…. to realise we are part of the whole… one with all in spirit, in energy, in life & death. Buddhism brings peace to those who choose to dedicate their time to understanding the teachings and then learning over time how to apply the wisdom to your own life in a Western World.
I thank the diversity of my home Australia, all the multi-cultural influences that beautify this land that nurtures so many people that are from different countries, come from different cultural lifestyles and religions and we all somehow live together without war…. Australia is a unique place in this respect, acknowledging how lucky we are to be able to believe in our own religions or gods is a freedom so many have had taken away over thousands of years and still today in 2010, yet in this land ‘down under’, we have achieved it.
In this portrayal of Buddha I decided to create the visual essence of him being a part of his surroundings, one with all.
