Equinoctial moon at Callanish
Callanish (Calanais) I, Isle of Lewis, Scotland.
The rising full moon in the East may have had special significance to the builders of Callanish and may have even heralded the start of the New year. This event happens at the full moon closest to the Spring and Autumn equinoxes each year. During this time the full moon rises from a position on the horizon marked by the East row of stones the moonrise event occurs within the hour of the sun setting on the opposite horizon.
