Green eyes, blue eyes, brown eyes
therein where your soul lies.
Hurting, reaching, contemplating why,
society views you the way they do
doesn’t see you at all.
Disguise your tears for fear
of being found out,
that nowhere is what you call home.
Each day you struggle to awake
to that desolate place of alone.
Have you lost your hope for tomorrow,
filled with helplessness and sorrow?
Has mankind evicted you from the living
Have you chosen to fade away?
Can you see far enough ahead
to view another day, of this homelessness
and look past the present choicelessness
to an answer that will house you in security?
Could it be…possibly?
What about your children,
how can they begin to understand
the roads you’ve traveled to get you here
where you’ve been,
when and how this all will end
or will it?
Is this cycle never ending,
will you be sending
your precious little ones
forward with this cross to bare,
or will they somehow find the door,
the entrance into a safe place of their own
a real place to call home?
Tonight as you lie your thoughts on a pillow of cement
with only your coat to warm the chill from your bones,
Will you contemplate what this day in passing even meant,
only then to pray for tomorrow’s home.
