Jane, thanks. My first ever sculpture. When I was given the assignment for a found object scultpure in the local bush, I had NO IDEA what I was going to do. It was raining slightly, and as I passed a stringybark (gum) tree which had shed its bark in long strips, I saw limbs … everywhere. Hence, the spider legs. The body was just a concrete post which I covered in bark as well.
This is fantastic Pat! really creative and fun. I love found object work, and natural materials. the sponteneity of making something just off-the-cuff, without a plan, is really exciting and really rewarding. congrats
you just never know what’s inside you, what you are capable of, until presented with the opportunity of extending yourself into new areas of expression, and being brave enough to take that plunge, to risk failure. Bring it on!
:D I’ve always had a fascination for spiders. However, when I just saw the thumbnail (without wearing my glasses, I have to admit) and seeing a human (you), next to it and thus realizing the size, for a brief moment it gave me the creeps until I realized it’s a sculpture!!! Great by the way ! :D It fits perfectly into the landscape and makes a hundret times better addtion to that forest than a concrete pole :D Great work, indeed! I do hope you get the chance to do some more sculpturing in future. I’d be curious what you’d present us with next!!! :D

Thanks Jeff
I had fun doing it. But I was worried when given the brief. I am not a 3D artist by nature.

I think I was smiling at the thought of how this would look (i.e. innocent person in the forest about to be devoured), but my smile ruined the effect.
