WOW!!!!!!!!!!! Whirli!! That is freaking amazing!!! I thought you painted it!!! Far out!!
Elaine van Dyk
Thanks Craig – I’m pleased you thought I’d painted it, because that is what I was attempting to achieve with this image – trying to create a bit of visual confusion between photography and painting. There is actually a very small amount of “drawing/painting” directly onto the computer.

The image has great depth to it too Whirli … was meant to mention that as well … Those reeds in the foreground really do seem closer!!!
dopey
ah, yes, this must be Africa, with a big cat lying in the grass and the hunger cramps in it’s belly. second guessing itself; am I close enough now to spring into action and bring down my dinner! Africa is alive and breathing and you’ve captured it here!!xx brilliant WHIRLI !!!!! you can feel the apprehension in the bushbuck’s measured stance and movement, this is Africa??? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t agree more with the comments so far.

Great work Whirli – I love the colours in this!
Elaine van Dyk
Thanks everyone. This is encouraging. It’s an image I wasn’t sure about, and as most creative people will understand, has bits that I’m not entirely happy with but just can’t find a better solution to. I posted Lone Bushbuck in pure desperation after having worked on several other images, which I ended up ditching after many hours and days of pain and frustration, and subsequently sank into a pit of depression. I just had to force myself back to normality again!!
FireRabbit
Beautiful work Whirligig! It really does look like a painting!

This is mad it’s so cool what you can do with a computer and a bit of heart.

You’ve created an incredible piece of art!!! Well done!
Craig Shillington
Don’t worry Whirli .. .we all get like that. I have spent the last 3 weeks or so working on stuff and just can’t seem to get it right!!! All ditched and half saved. I guess we sorta get like writers block at times. Or maybe nothing changes so much in what we are doing, but how we are feeling about what we are doing … if you know what I mean. I keep coming back to your pages to see new stuff … you seem to be in the slumps eh {{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}} It will come back :) :) It bloody Better!! I’d miss you too much!!! :)
Elaine van Dyk
Thanks FireRabbit, Cassie, geogiegirl, and Craig. I’m amazed this piece has attracted attention. But there you go…......it’s always worth posting work to see how other perceive it, isn’t it.
Craig, you hit the nail on the head, and you are right. I believe most creative people get these “downs”. But believe me I won’t be beaten by my “blocks”, and I’ll be posting more work here very soon – just give me a couple of weeks. I’ve decided to change methods and get back to basics, and am currently working on 3 lino prints – still at the “carving out the images” stage. I’ll be out of action for a few days next weekend due to a procedure on my right eye to correct a fault in one spot where the epithelial layer on the cornea isn’t adhering properly, hence keeps tearing (which is extremely painful, I might add!). But I expect some new work here after that.
