Thanks All for your comments. I’m sort of going off in this direction for a little while I think – with birds/other animals. Trouble is I need to get a lot closer to some of the wild birds, but they’re not always so obliging!

Whirligig, I love this one and am interested in buying a t-shirt if that’s possible.

Alison, I have managed to upload the image as a t-shirt design, but didn’t want to reduce it too much in size for fear of losing the chickens! Also, rest assured, I fully understand the price issue thing.

Thanks Cliff and mawaho. I absolutely adore chooks. Unfortunately I can’t have any where I live now, which is sad, so I have to be content with drawing them or making images of them

Great stuff. Just like chooks, lol.
I can see an Aboriginal face in the thumbnail, to the right of the 4th chook down. I think it actually drew me to the painting.
Even if it’s not there, I love it.

Wow, William, it’s amazing how people who look objectively at something see different things. I had another look and can also see the face now – it wasn’t intentional, certainly not on a conscious level. But as I work very much on my “feelings”, who knows….... Also, while studying in the ‘90’s I worked on images relating to my past, which included African masks/spirituality and Christian crosses. I see faces in another person’s work here on RB too, and hers aren’t intentional either, which makes this all the more interesting. And like her, I am not religious, but I am deeply spiritual. Thanks for commenting.

I’m also a big fan of chooks. We have four and they follow me around the garden, scratching the ground at my feet. This is a lovely painting. You just know there’s going to be lots of juicy worms and beetles under all those leaves.

I think I’ve seen a seires of these chooks before at a printmakers exhibition, could I be Right?

  • Evangeline Than

Did you draw these? They’re great!

  • Elaine van Dyk

    Elaine van Dyk

Hi MBartworks. I’ve never exhibited this image other than on RedBubble. I do have other prints that revolve around chooks and family, but were part of my art studies, and once again, have never been publicly exhibited. So, alas, unfortunately I cannot claim fame to the series you saw at the printmakers exhibition!

Evangeline, thanks for your encouraging comment. To answer your question, the background is compiled of several layers in photoshop and the chooks were drawn on top of those layers, using a graphic tablet.

  • Elaine van Dyk replied

Lucindawind, so sorry I haven’t responded to you earlier (had a lot of distractions around that time). Thank you for your feedback. Yes, “chooks/chookies” is the Aussie word for chickens.
