This is awesome stuff, has to be my favourite so far, the layering is surreal and that orange makes me feel kind of isolated. at first I thought those vertical lines at the top were hippy beads, what a contrast I found that to be…
Elaine van Dyk, about 1 year ago
Thanks kathleen. Your comments are really appreciated. I’m just going with the flow at the moment and trying out digital art for the first time. But I guess that really fits in with my printmaking interest/background. I still much prefer to feel the paper, tools and surface I’m working with though.

I love the richness of the red. This piece is a wonderful fantasy.
Helene Kippert, about 1 year ago
Love the colours and layering in this. Very impressive!
dopey, about 1 year ago
This is still my favorite of the lost city series, as it holds out much more mystery. It is surreal and full of unknowns. Dramatization of life and dreams, love it. The lone light is the ray of hope, drawing you in.

beautiful whirli – what program r u using- is it all painted or hand done or phot composites? tell me your secrets gal- spill heehee lol i love it even if u dont tell =
Elaine van Dyk, about 1 year ago
Jienn, all of The Lost City series are done from my original digital photos and layered/manipulated in Photoshop. I’m so amazed at the response I’m getting because it’s my first effort at producing artwork like this in Photoshop. Learnt on a very early version of Photoshop about 13 years ago, but really only did basic layers, etc. Always planned to use it for touching up heaps of very old photos of my ancestors, but haven’t started that process yet.
Jienn Heibloem, about 1 year ago
your work is so beautiful, but it is your base photography where the difference is hun, you sure will agree that when you begin with sound and beautiful imagery as the photographic basis then its somewhat easier to make surrealism work…..whatya think????
Elaine van Dyk, about 1 year ago
It helps to have reasonable photographs to work from, but sometimes you can take the good bits and pieces from photos that haven’t necessarily worked on their own, and turn them into something special with layers of bits and pieces from other photos. I operate very much by “feel” rather than perfection. I’m flattered that you like my images Jienn, and flattered by all the comments I’m getting from other people. I’ve never been one to display my work in the past – it’s mostly hidden in map draws and in the shed. But here I can be anonymous….......
mawaho, about 1 year ago
I’d like to add my praise also for this piece of fascinating art. If this is one of your first pieces, I’m impressed. All the bits fit well together. The cobwebs look good.

Thanks mawaho.

Hey…Whirligig…this is fantastic art. I’m getting such a lot of inspiration from what you do. I’m still crawling around as far as computer graphics go….but it’s something that really gets my juices flowing…as does your work. Awesome stuff.
Elaine van Dyk, 11 months ago
I feel extremely honoured that someone like you should be getting inspiration from what I do! Thank you so much for that encouragement. Now I’ll really have to climb out of my slump and get on with trying to do something worthwhile.
Martin Derksema, 11 months ago
This ia amazing. I can see that you are a print maker. It looks like a vision. Or like spiritual architecture. Really unbelievable. The rhythm, the lining, the textures, the colours: it is a symphony of visual beauty. Great.
Tony Moore, 11 months ago
Great work, it takes great vision to get great results like this.
Thanks for your comments on CRITICISM. Hoping to add a second article on sun/mon with a cunning plan. Your words were thought out and are considered. Thanks

I admire people as you, able to make an art work with collage, different bits and pieces; turning them, mixing them… I am totally enable to do this, and I really love this kind of “manipulations”
Unfortunatelly I have no time to comment, no time to visit many portfolios.. but I appreciate something important :
- the intelligent comments on different blogs and discussions,
- the work you do,
- the personnality you seem to have.
Truly appreciated.
