Love this! Great shot – the lighting is awesome! Love that moment in time – where there is light then total blackness. Great work!

Thanks Paul. Your comments are really appreciated.

Love this, so warm and inviting, like an oasis in the darkness

Wonderful shot Whirly. Love the sign and the whole French feel. Got any more shots of France?
Elaine van Dyk
Thanks Chris. Between my partner and I we have thousands of photos of France (the results of a 7-week house-sitting stay just south of Grenoble last year). This one is taken in the village where we stayed – only about 40 or so houses, no shops, no cafes…......just the locals, and of course the pizza van which parked outside the little church on Thursday evenings!

Sounds exciting Whirly. I am a bit of a francophile myself. Are you a fluent speaker?
Elaine van Dyk
Used to be a fairly fluent speaker in the ‘60’s because we lived in Paris for 3 years and I was at school. In addition to normal school I attended night school for extra French classes (gives my age away a bit, doesn’t it!). But not having spoken it since then, I have lost that ability, but still understand enough to get by. I did enjoy the challenge of speaking again when I was there last year though!

I think we need signs like this one here in Melbourne! ; )
Belle photo de nuit!
Elaine van Dyk
Bonjour claudia! Merci. Yes, as an ex-bicycle rider, I certainly agree about the signs. France has a great respect for cyclist though, which is something Aussie motorists are yet to pick up on.

This one is simple and to the point. This is the type of picture I wish I could take but my photogrophy skills are limited that’s why I chose to paint. lol .Nice work.
Elaine van Dyk
Yes, I know what you mean about photography. Pure photography is not a strong element in my work, and I tend to rather take bits and pieces out of my photos and create something entirely different. It is easier for me to create my own images that say something, or tell a story, than to take photos that have the same effect.
