When I was a kid I believed I could dig a hole to China. I set about trying once in an open field by my house. I got all the kids involved. We ended up with a hole big enough to drag an old couch and some chairs into. About as big and deep as a good sized living room. We found old wood scraps and built steps down into it. Everyone’s dad had a bucket of old odd nails and there was construction going on in the neighborhood with lot’s of wood just laying around. We were too young to realize we were stealing the wood from the construction site. lol I posted this picture with the story on my Facebook account and got many great childhood adventure stories on the post. I’m hoping to hear some of you Redbubble folks tell of your great adventure stories as well.

This work represents my experience in learning to make digital art from someone who has never owned a computer, me. I have fallen in love with this tool. I thank you for stopping by to check out Whimzwhirled and hope that you come back often as I have a whole lot more to share.

I was a child of the forest, and one time we took shovels and old boards to the woods and dug a rectangular hole, setting the sod aside, covered the top with boards and ‘disguised’ them by replacing the sod. Our furniture was old wooden crates and steps carved into the dirt leading down. I recall how disappointed I was a week later that the sod had withered, revealing our ‘secret’ hideaway!
It wasn’t long before we were disappointed with our hole as well. It rarely dried out enough to play in. That’s when we got more wood and nails and built a tree house. It was just some 2×4′s nailed to the tree for steps and three levels of floor. We didn’t need no stinkin walls. lol The poor tree didn’t seem to mind as it never died from the nailing and climbing. Was still alive when I moved out at 16.
