Artist's Description

Description:I often look to visually interpret old cliche, song lyrics and quotes for inspiration. This one was pretty close to home for a few years in my life. I’d been though a series of really hard stuff, including my long time boyfriends death. For several years afterwards I became very introverted. I crawled inside of myself and got lost. My family tried to get me to go out and live again and I knew I needed to do that. I would go with my brother to a party and find myself alone in a corner. Thoughts running through my head of what I could say to start a conversation and working myself up to where when something did come out of my mouth, it was awkward and only made me climb further inside. I wrote a lot during that time and had written some OK prose. I decided to fix myself I was going to start by making myself go to a once a month poetry reading that went on locally. On the days of the poetry reading I would be tied in knots with some unknown fear, but I made myself do it even when my knees shuck so much I thought they would give out. It took some time but it worked. I’ll never forget how hard it was to break out though. I no longer have the nickname of recluse. That’s how my thoughtful brother used to introduce me to his friends, My sister the recluse. lol
