    Wow, tell me your secret!

  • Dan Jesperson replied

In Photoshop, isolate your area of interest with lasso tool, marque tools or magic wand – select inverse, choose black and white. You can effect color in Adjustments. The burn tool and Dodge tool are fun to play with, levels and curves. Try a little diffuse glow and your picture will be something all new in itself. And… there are other ways of doing this, it’s all about being creative and having fun!

Stunning treatment. Can I come for lessons

  • Dan Jesperson replied

ha ha sure… why not! Quite simple really. Photoshop? Familiar?

  • Deidre Cripwell

    Deidre Cripwell

I have photoshop – but when it comes to anything technical or artistic I have the mental capacity of a apple seed. Not the brightest bulb in th lampshade

  • Dan Jesperson replied

...how about the brightest crayon in the box? Sorry, couldn’t help it. Well trial and error… and error… and error will eventually bring you success. Tutorials online are great. Find someone who can physically show you. Learning with hands on with speed things up. You’ll love what it’ll do with your creativity.

  • Deidre Cripwell

    Deidre Cripwell

Thank you. (And I guess admitting to being less than bright is the first step to “recovery” – or it might be a sign of true genius)

Fantastic job, this was instantly one of my favorites … the vibrant colors appear even more dynamic when the print is displayed in an off-white matte, with a black box frame.

To everyone else out there (reading this), check out the rest of Dan’s gallery … it is definately worth your time!

  • Dan Jesperson replied

Thanks Kevin – So nice of you to drop the message like that. Made my day!

  • Mary Campbell

It is very nice, and nice of you to explain the PS technique used. For those interested in good PS learning books, Tom Ing has one called Photoshop CS for Photographers that is great. As for this picture I like it a lot as I don’t really like B&W anything too much, this gives it a color flare while technically staying within the B&W relm.

  • Dan Jesperson replied

Thanks for that Mary. I’ve read through the book you mentioned and would recommend it as well. There are also great tutorials (online and dvd) you can go through which help quite a bit. This way you’re hands on which is the best way for some, like me, to learn. Thanks again!
