Below is a video I created of the polar bears of Kaktovik, Alaska….
Two polar bear cubs get very physical with each other. The two played for over an hour, the smaller cub instigating another round of play fighting each time the duo broke off for a breather. Play fighting may look like fun but it is in effect a useful tool to train muscles and young cubs on how to defend themselves when they become adults.
Currently polar bears (Ursus maritimus) are listed by the IUCN as Vulnerable. Threats to their existence include hunting and loss of habitat.

Aww, I opened RB just now and here are two great polar bears with a splendid title, Gina! (fav, of course) Now to watch the vid.
Hi, Jan! Thank you for the Fave as well as your uplifting comments. The title was inspired by a game that was popular when I was a child, Rock ’em Sock ’em Robots_, a pretty lame game that featured boxing robots. When I was sorting through images, the memory of the ditzy game came to mind—-_"His BLOCK is knocked off!"—- and the rest was history. Guess I’m showing my age by revealing that…:-)) Best to you! G

Wonderful! Just like little boys. They need some toys to play with. I love to watch them walk, with those large snowshoe feet. Excellent work, Gina.
Thank you, sweet Dot! I appreciate all your support during 2011. Merry Christmas to you and yours. May all good things come your way in 2012! G

What cute little rascals they are. Great capture Gina. :o)
Aren’t they something? The little roughnecks surely enjoy playing. I think of them now in total darkness out on the ice. Probably not much playing going on right now with hunting food being their main activity. Hugs, G
