A bald eagle perches in its icy kingdom.

Thousands of bald eagles congregate at the Valley of the Eagles each November to take advantage of a late season salmon run. Tthe abundant food it provides sustains the eagles throughout a brutal winter.

Cool shot Gina … ♥ how the eagle is framed by the snow covered branches!! Take Care ~ Rick & Deb ~ ☺

  • Thanks, Deb! It was such a winter wonderland with fresh fallen snow. Bear tracks were seen in the new snow just after dawn. Would LOVE to return with a bigger lens!

Yeah … Finally get to see some shots from that adventure.
Love the ice on the branches, totally different to what I was used to seeing. WTG Gina, beautiful capture!!

  • Miss B, I’m going to fly to AU and kidnap you back to the Valley of the Eagles. That’s all there is to it. You have such a good eye with your eagle images that you can teach me your tricks. That snow was an added plus, lending a softer look to the landscape. It also was a pain in the tookus when it landed on our lenses. Thanks as always for your support!

Excellent capture, great composition and DOF.

  • Hatterasjack, it’s so nice to hear from you. First of all, I appreciate your kind comments. Secondly, you live in one of the most beautiful parts of the US. I am enjoying seeing your vision of that area. It’s kind of funny…I’ve been sorting through old photo albums and came upon images of the Outer Banks from 1977. There was just wild sand dunes and grasses and that great restless sea. You have convinced me I must return before too long. Thanks for the good memory joggers!

    Oh, well done!

  • Thank you, Lyle. Hey, do you ever go to Starved Rock SP near Utica, IL? During cold snaps in January many bald eagles congregate near the dam where open water is available. We should organize a RB field trip out there. I’d love to see what you could do to abstract an eagle image!
