A "Secondhand" Dog~A Joyous Life by Gina Ruttle (Whalegeek)

My dog, Qimeq. He’s part Siberian husky, part German shepherd and lots of ‘unknown’ according to his DNA.

Mr. Q was found lying underneath a bush before being brought to a local animal shelter. That’s all we know about his past.

Qimeq was very ill when adopted August 12, 2008, progressing from suffering a case of kennel cough along with a severe parasite infestation to necrotizing pneumonia within the course of a few days. This handsome boy came close to death.

Happily, thanks to lots of TLC, powerful antibiotics, a smart veterinarian and youth, the skinny waif my husband and I brought home has matured into this fine, strong, strapping ‘juvenile delinquent.’

If you are considering adopting a dog, please search local animal shelters and breed rescue sites. There are so many other secondhand dogs (and cats) awaiting good forever homes, each one of them as sweet-natured and beautiful as our special companion.

Awwwww……what a story. Thank God you adopted him and now has a great life. Wonderful action capture. He looks so happy. Excellent.

  • He is one happy fellow these days. We are, too. It’s so good having a dog around the house once more. The house was too empty when our other beloved dog passed over. Thanks so much!

Qmeq is one beautiful dog. I am happy that all of you, found each other. Yes, you give him love and a home, but you always receive so much more in return. As Kay said above, we are fostering one now, but we have already let them know that we are adopting her. Our last four dogs have all been rescues, and we would not go any other way. So many wonderful, beautiful, loving, sweet animals in these shelters and rescues. Bless you, for caring about them …. Lynn

  • Lynn, thank you for sharing your stories with me. You are wonderful for looking after the little ones that need help the most. Adoption is the best way to go. There are so many neglected animals needing homes. Heck, even if one desires a specific breed, breed rescue organizations are a good sources to contact. Congrats on your new foster/soon to be adopted pup. What a lucky dog it is but, of course, you also know YOU are also very lucky to share your life with these loving creatures.
