My dog, my beloved boy.

Adopted from a local animal shelter August 12, 2008, one of the happiest days of my dog’s and my life.

A DNA test established that my four-legged son is part Siberian husky, part German shepherd, and largely “UNK,” as my husband terms ‘unknown.’ He adores running with the endurance of a husky, sometimes acts protective ala a shepherd and is one heck of a mixed heritage dog. We call him an American Bitsa; bitsa this and bitsa that!

Rhinelander, Wisconsin, USA

Canon 40D, Tamron 180mm macro lens, shutter 1/100, f/3.5, exposure bias +1.0, ISO 400, Manfrotto tripod, Wimberley II head, slumbering dog.

So glad you found one other! Great image, he looks very content!

  • I just read an article about dogs and cats choosing their humans. Hmmmm, not sure if that really occurred here but there was an instant attraction that did not happen with other dogs. Thank you for stopping by for a look!

    Perfect portait

  • Thank you, Mitch. I couldn’t resist this one. My dog was tired from playing with his favorite toy, a plush bear. Falling asleep on the toy, my canine son looked peaceful as he slept. It’s a happy image for me.

Another awesome shot, love the lighting here.

  • Thank you for your very kind comments. The lighting was so nice; pure diffuse light coming in through a window in late morning. It did not last for long…as a photographer, you know how that story goes. Catch it while you can!

Beautiful image. Thank you, for rescuing him. So many wonderful animals in the shelters… Lymm

  • Yes, that is the sad truth that there are so many animals awaiting homes with far too few good people to take them all in. I’ve been watching five feral kitties playing on an icy, snowy pond out back since morning. Poor little babies. A pox on whoever let their kitty out in the first place to cause this situation. A neighbor is kindly putting out some food for the babies. I think we may have to look into a trap-neuter-release solution for the little ones. Thank you for stopping by. I’ll give my boy a kiss from you!

What a lovely capture, my friend!

  • Thank you, Bela but it’s the model whose inner beauty shines out. I have to keep telling myself to call my canine son ‘handsome’ rather than ‘pretty.’ :-))) But he really is a pretty dog. When I think that this animal ended up lost or abandoned underneath a bush it boggles my mind. Wish I could adopt them all. Happy New Year to you and yours, dear Bela.

oh wow, its a love like no other, one to be treasured and one that fills your heart with joy on a daily basis , i think im soon to loose one of my boys, hes had lung worm and a weak heart but we have had 11 years of total love and devotion and laughter and joy and squabbles lol xx

  • Bev, I’m heartsick for you that you may soon part forever from one of your furry kids. That is the most difficult part of taking a companion animal into your life, saying goodbye far too early. It hurts so much. Bless you and your little ones. Give them all hugs, treats and pets from across the miles.
