I love this image…gorgeous!
whalegeek replied
Thank you, Karen. When I look at this image I am reminded of the spirit of adventure and electricity in the air as I commenced that morning’s search for rhinos in Kaziranga. The peaceful quiet of the morning was broken only by the sound of the elephant’s footfalls through the grass.
Jan Timmons
Beautifully composed. The light glinting from the tall grass and the almost-silhouette against the pale hues appeals to me.
A group exists called “Elegant Elephants!”? Surely this would be a perfect feature!
whalegeek replied
Jan, you always write the most poetic, articulate comments. Thank you for your comments. I already have posted this into Elegant Elephants, one of my favorite animals, to be certain.

John Mitchell
Excellent dawn shot. Did you also visit Manas National Park, on the border of Assam and Bhutan?
whalegeek replied
Hey, John, we were supposed to visit Manas but unrest caused guests to be detained at Manas. That derailed plans to go there. Kaziranga was fine when we were there but there were other demonstrations, some of them violent that caused frequent indecision and changes of plans while in Assam. Sigh…I’m sure you understand when I tell you that the places that interest me most of all often have the biggest undercurrent of tension running through them. Pity that these things happen, isn’t it?
Jan Timmons
You do seem to prefer large elephants and whales. Is this a trend?
whalegeek replied
Jan, you mustn’t forget your Alaskan bears, either! Dogs are another passion as well but my pound puppy is far more accessible than the wilder mammals in my life. Something about elephants has always captivated me yet it’s not easy to pinpoint exactly what that is. Yet my all-time winner in the fascination department remains those beloved whales. Love hearing from you, Jan!
Lois Bryan
omg … soooooo masterfully composed and executed!!!! Speaking of stalking … forgive me if I seem to be stalking YOU in the next few days. Not enough time today, but I LOVE your perspective on the world and must come back to visit longer. Don’t mind me … I’ll be the one over here in the corner going oooo and ahhhhhh … and I always bring my own coffee.
