My name is Ian… and I have had a camera in my hand since I was 11 years old
True art comes sometimes from pain pain that is unimaginable to some people. I am an artist… a photographer and I have lived thru this pain And so it is that my photographs are often intense… dark… colorful And so it is that I dont follow the rules. I make my own. I photograph what I want to see… What I want to feel. When I am out in the city and I see people on the street I photograph what I want to see and feel. We should all remember that rules belong only to the science of photography. If they MUST be applied to the visual senses, then are we REALLY photographing what we want to see… and feel? SO many … so often… follow the rules to impress and please. SO often …we fail to really see and feel and create a photograph from the heart. The mind of the photographer… of the artist.. is often complex and passionate I survived great personal pain… both physical and emotional And I heal my scars with a camera… and my OWN rules!
My grandfather was a major influence in my style and early compositional choices. My father was also a very talented but troubled artist… and so I gleened the best of their talents as a teenager.
My first camera was a kodak instamatic… with a square format… and limited choices. Creativity with this camera was paramount.
Then… I graduated to a Ricoh 35mm SLR with a 50mm lens. This was my first venture into serious film photography, and I was in creative and photographic bliss.
Then in the 80’s I was using Canon cameras and lens, until I became addicted to digital SLR’s …and now I use Nikon cameras and Sigma lens.

“Do not curse at me great arrogant beast “ the tree retorted with a menacing calm, / “for you are an infant in my lifetime.” / “ I have survived many floods and fires,
Then the wind came out of nowhere… a strange chilling wind, and I wondered if it could get even colder out here in the middle of this dry, dusty and compelling desolation.
The trees begin to stir and sing their heralding song as the wind begins to stretch out in front of the rains that will come on the storm, yet behind the curtain of the mountains.
Her graceful form glides along on a current of air, her eyes scanning the distant shore. A storm is brewing in the heights where she dwells.
