When I see Hollyhocks growing, they bring back fond memories of my Great Grandmothers garden….found these in an old church yard in Keith, South Australia.

‘A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul’

Wonderful image, Lynda……. I too remember these while growing up…. they were planted under my mum’s kitchen window….. In the summer, while washing dishes, I would wait for the tops of the Hollyhocks to appear up to the window height…..I knew they would get that tall…. and they never disappointed!!!I remember they were in pastels shades…. your bright red is gorgeous!!!Brenda
Thankyou so kindly Brenda. My Great Grandmother lived in the adjoining house to my Grandparents, the home where my Mum grew up. There was a connecting gate in the yard, and as a young child it was like entering into a secret garden….fish ponds made of shells set in cement, a thatched greenhouse, rambling Morning Glory vine and of course Hollyhocks amongst other beautiful flowers…..pure magic!:-))
