Morals.

She looked up at the man. His face bright with smiles and twinkes. He seemed to be wise beyond years. She often sat with him and talked about the world around them. This day was a day of questions and the man always gave answers.

“Why do we hate?” She asked honestly.

“Because we love,” replied the wise man.

Why do we hurt?” She asked honestly.

“Because we know joy,” replied the wise man.

“Why do we make war?” She asked honestly.

“Because we know peace,” Replied the wise man.

The girl felt confused with all these answers, each one just opposing the root of her question. She frowned at the wise man. He smiled back at the little girl. When he realized her confusion he placed his hand on her head tenderly.

“Remember that we only know evil when faced with good. To know hate, we must have known love. To know hurt, we must have known joy. To know war we must have known peace. Without that knowledge, we could never know the meaning of those words. This is why I always have hope in the face of despair.”

The young girl looked up at the old man. She knew the truth in his words because he never lied. Her frown turned to smile to match his.

“Thanks Papa,” She said honestly.
