The storm was beating against the walls of the grand mansion. The sky was dark with cloud, but the lightning shattered the dark with electric flashes of light. The wind howled through the cracks and broken windows, hoping someone would hear their call. Down the long twisted stairs, deep in the bowels of the mansion a mad scientist is hard at work stitching furiously.

“Hurry, hurry,” he calls to his hunched assistant, who is flipping dials and pressing buttons as quick as he can.

“The storm is at its peak, I can not miss this moment Egor!”

The scientist bites off his last stitch and covers his creation with the white sheet. This is not his first attempt, but it was his most important. Years led to this moment, tormented by his other creations; he begins to pull on the rope to raise the platform holding his creation. As it rises through the house his diabolical smile widens.

“This is it Egor…this is finally it!”

The platform locks in place at the top of the mansion. The storm whips at the sheet covering the form beneath. The scientist wipes a tear from his eye and flips a large metal switch. The lightning rod attached to the platform raises into the stormy sky and waits for the perfect bolt.

“Please, please,” the scientist begs to the sky.

“Please, please,” Egor copies his master.

The storm quiets, the wind stops blowing. All is calm and serene in the sky above. The scientist winces at the thought of the storm ending.

“No, not fair!” he yells at the sky.

The sky answers with the brightest and biggest bolt of lightning and life. It hits the lightning rod and pours down into the creature. Sparks fly everywhere. Machinery below pops and catches fire. The scientist and his assistant try to extinguish the fires, but to no avail. The lab is nothing more than a room with destroyed equipment and any chance of second tries are ruined. The scientist begins to lower the creature back down to the laboratory.

There is no movement under the wet sheet. It is still and cold. From the shadows the giant comes. It lurches toward the scientist bent on revenge. The scientist screams and raises his arms to protect himself from the giant. Another creature comes from the shadows screaming her anger. The white streaks in her hair glowing in the moonlight of the now cloudless sky.

“Master!” Egor calls.

They all look at the sheet as it moves. The creature beneath sits up and the sheet falls from it’ head. The face of the boy is grey like his father. His hair is thick like its mother. It turns his head to the scientist.

“What’s up?” it says with a smile.

The scientist smiles and looks at the two creatures, “it’s a boy! Can I please leave now.”

The large creature grunts and nods. The female creature staggers stiffly to the table, quickly joined by the large man.

The scientist and Egor run up the old stairs laughing and gibbering on about being free and finally being able to start his plastic surgery practice.

The boy on the table looks at the monsters in front of him.

“Frannnnkie…” Grunts the large man.

The stiff woman touches the boy’s face.

Frankie smiles, “I love you too Mom and Dad.”

Frankenstein picks up his son and together with his bride they leave the old Laboratory. Up the old stairs to the main house. The door to Laboratory closes forever, they stagger into kitchen for their first meal as a family, The Family Frankenstein.
