Northern Lights

Eva and Klaus Weber-Wanjek

Northern Lights

I painted this picture with Art Rage after reading the Golden Compass trilogy. Painted from a picture of the aurora which I found on the internet. I have always been fascinated by the northern lights and there are wonderful descriptions of this natural phenomena in the first book of the above mentioned trilogy. They fill me with awe and seem so magical – natural magic!
Painted by a German/ Irish soul and seen through Irish Eyes ;o)

Great imagery, I am priveledged to say that I have seen the northern Lights and they are truly spectacular, like your painting. I was in a moving car at the time and they were always moving and changing colour, simply stunning to watch. Something that would have been impossible to do justice to with a camera but the images have stayed with me. If only I were this talented I would paint them myself.

  • Eva and Klaus ... replied

Hello there Fay! Thank you so much for your wonderful comment! I can´t really remember when I heard about the Northern Lights before but even though I know how they are formed they have something magical for me. Thanks so much for stopping by!

O I had to scroll SUCH a long way down to add this comment – You’ve portrayed the ‘lights’ beautifully Eva! I have never had the experience of seeing them other than the many wonderful images of them here on RB taken by photographers lucky enough to live where they appear – but I loved the trilogy – ‘The Golden Compass’ and your image allows me to sense’ the existence of another world behind the lights…’ Beautiful :)))

  • Eva and Klaus ... replied

    Thank you so much Kallena!
It is one of our goals in life to see the northern lights. But even if you travel far to see them, there is never a guarantee that you will actually experience them. That is probably what makes them so special too.
They take you off the face of the earth for an instant, don´t they? Let you see that there is so much more than what meets the eye.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment!

  • Eva and Klaus ... replied

    Hello my dear Maggie!
Thank you so much! I would love to see them too but they do seem to be quite difficult to catch. Sometimes they look like slow fireworks and other times they are like bright green swathes. Whichever way – they must be a magical sight to remember.
