Bald Cypress tree rules over the peace and quiet here. The most amazing thing about visiting here, is that you can literally have the entire lake to yourself, it takes a bit of an effort to get here, but it is so worth it!

    Very nice Ol Buddy!

  • Dude, I missed so many shots that day ….. So glad we ventured out again a couple of days ago ….. It was incredible. We had a ton of rain recently, so the Corps of Engineers opened the flood gates to drain water from the lake into the canal. The current was so strong, that when I stopped paddling to take some shots, I was beginning to drift backwards. I wasn’t paying attention, and before I knew it, I was drifting backwards into this low hanging tree. There was all kinds of foam (from the agitated water) that had formed around the low branches, now I was getting this damn foam everywhere. On my back, into the boat, onto the camera, etc. The more I tried to move to get out from beneath the tree, the more crap was shaken of the tree and into my boat, spiders, leaves, dust mites, foam, etc. A buddy came alongside with his “unsinkable” kayak and tried to rescue me, of cause his boat got caught in the current as well and was now wedging me against the tree and his kayak. We finally just called out “Every man for himself!” and carried on with rescuing ourselves. It was hillarious. Our boats looked like “ass” when we were done. The other folks in our kayak party caught up to us and just gave us that “What were you too doing in the tree anyway?” look. I’m not even going to tell you what happened when he and I decided to tow a fellow kayaker up the current (using 2 kayaks and 1 tow rope). We did have a fantastic time though!

Nice! There is a challenge in All Countries ~ Wetlands, Ponds, Lakes and Rivers that is looking for perfectly still water with reflections – and this beautiful shot surely qualifies! http://www.redbubble.com/groups/streams-brooks-...
