Super cool Andy…happy to see someone getting the landscape in their “big boom” shot!

  • Yeah, thanks Von, in hindsight, I wished I would have gotten a bit more water and the reflections in the shot …. Happy to have at least the Stars and Stripes in it, and also the dude that was suspended from his silboat mast in some sort of chair. You can barely make him out on the right mast. Thanks for the comment! Hope you had a great 4th!

WOW Andy! Sooooo beautiful! What was your exposure time on this? Smart feller there in his bosun’s chair :)

  • Hey Shelly! I have to say I like how this turned out, but wished I had gotten a little more water in the foreground. Fireworks were shot from a barge, so of course it kept moving from right to left, causing me to constantly having to adjust the tripod, etc.

I did some last night as well (first real attempt) with similar settings but mine don’t look anywere as crisp and clean as this. Oh well…next year! And it is hard to know were to point and shoot hey?! How many shots did you take? I did about 260….I just kept firing away :)

  • I think I took about 220 or so. It is hard, I struggle with getting good results. Funny, this shot was the third one I took, so there was literally no smoke clouds from the previous “shots”. Looking at the images further along, and they all are pretty much junk. The key is to “know” where they will be going off, and have your focus dead on for that spot, then switch to Manual Focus. Works great until the barge drifts downriver, forcing me to have to adjust it all …. And you are so right, there is always next year! Gonna post one of yours? I challenge you! Heheheheeh!

WOW! How cool! Show us all first timers up….LOL…. I was either too far away… or to close to get the land….but who knows…maybe next year.

  • Thank you! It’s a shame that we all have to wait for one more year, how is someone supposed to get good at this? Persistence will pay off, I hope! Hope you got a few keepers to post?
